irritation

my first negative post. its my blog and i can rant if i want to... i am SO SICK of false advertising, of the pretty pictures on gas and car commercials, of how blissed out food ads are, of how insurance companies swear they care about their customers, credit cards claim to afford us "priceless" experiences, "customer services" are really just bullshit scripts smothered with red tape and fine print. we all need, seek, buy and consume "products", is there a product we can believe in? really? oh, and have i mentioned the depth of my disgust in group projects for school? Lays, happiness is simple, thanks, but it has nothing to do with potato chips.

hella jongerius

hella jongerius, dutch designer. I'm working on a project about her right now, and I am so inspired that i just have to share. She went back to school to study design in her late 20's, after a previous degree in carpentry or ceramics (my sources conflict). SOUND FAMILIAR?? She was picked up right out of school by the very famous dutch design firm, DROOG. She's a product designer.... with a hankering for craft and handmade goods. that is unique, people. she combines handcrafted and mass production techniques, and has worked on some incredible projects with Ikea, Droog, MoMA, and on and on and on. Just realized I'm late for class.

cara ober

cara ober, baltimore artist. she's incredible, she's amazing, i actually met her once at a show in arlington. i went to the show because i knew she would be here and i had to catch a glimpse of her. i love the collage, the hand painted text, the dreamy old school references, the messy drips. these are the same tricks EVERYONE is using, but i an most convinced by the way SHE's doing it.
